About the Program
On August 14, 2018, Quebec Justice Minister Stéphanie Vallée announced that the CAVAC network would coordinate a Program to compensate the family and close friends of deceased victims of a criminal act for expenses incurred while attending legal proceedings. News release from the Minister (in French only). This Program is financed through funds paid to CAVAC by offenders.
An external committee was created to jointly set up and implement the Program. The committee is made up of representatives of six key organizations that work with crime victims and their families: the CAVAC network, the Association des familles de personnes assassinées ou disparues (AFPAD), the Association québécoise Plaidoyer-Victimes (AQPV), the Montreal Police Department (SPVM), the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) and the Bureau d’aide aux victimes d’actes criminels (BAVAC).
